Alabama Unemployment Compensation Tax Assessment

Alabama Department of Industrial Relations (ALDIR) mailed letters to employers statewide on August 10, 2011 informing them of an unemployment compensation tax assessment of the employer's 2010 taxable wages to repay interest owed to the U.S. Treasury.

The state has been borrowing money to pay unemployment benefits for almost two years and the interest is now due. State law requires that interest be repaid by assessment of employers. The assessments are 0.07% of employer's taxable wages for the 2010 calendar year.

Payment should be made by check or via electronic funds transfer at the ALDIR website by September 9, 2011.

PBS is not responsible for and cannot make this payment since we do not have access to these funds. We just wanted to keep you informed of the situation. If you have questions, please contact your Payroll & Benefits Solutions payroll specialist.
